  4. Buying and Storing Tips for doTERRA Essential Oils

Essential oils are exceptionally important and should be treated with great respect.  These oils can also be very expensive. Before using these oils it is essential that you know everything about it. doTERRA Essential Oils can be damaged by ultraviolet light and gets weak more rapidly at the blue end of the spectrum than the red. Thus, these oils should be stored in amber-colored bottles so that it remains effective for the long time.

Never pour the doTERRA oils into clear glass or clean plastic bottles. In fact, oils should never be stored in direct sunlight, so it is good to avoid sunny windowsills. In addition, these oils do not like extremes or high temperatures. They are extremely volatile that means that they evaporate rapidly. Always change the caps immediately and make sure that the caps are tightly closed when you are not using the oil.

Essential oils that are pure will last approximately for three years from the bottling date. In excellent storage conditions they will last for about five years. Once essential oils have been mixed with the carrier oil, the shelf-life reduces significantly. For highest beneficial use freshly made-up blends. A blend can be used for about three to six months if it is stored in an amber-colored bottle in a cool place and that is away from sunlight. Also, you should remember that this oil is expensive, so you should use it carefully without wasting any drop.

Do’s and Don’ts of buying and storing these oils

    1. Clear plastic or glass bottles and then only add oils. Always store oils in amber-colored bottles for its long life
    2. Do not forget to check when the oil is bottled and how old it is?
    3. Do not store oil in the direct sunlight
    4. Also, check that the oils are available at the best rates. If you think that the oil is available at higher rates then it is recommended not to buy it. For example, rose essential oil will be far more costly than lavender or rosemary. So, check the rates of oils before buying them.
    5. Do check that the oil is blended or diluted with any carrier oil or not?
    6. Is the essential oils adulterated with synthetic materials or bulking agents?
    7. Always check the aromatherapy of the oil carefully.
    8. When you are buying these oils always buy from a supplier who is well known with the same.
    9. Has your doctor recommended the oil to you?
    10. How long the supplier firm has been established?
    11. These oils should always be kept away from small children. If these oils are consumed internally, then it can be highly dangerous and have serious impact on your health.
    12. Never leave the cap of the bottle open to avoid any impurity.
    13. Always store these oils away from the naked flame.
    14. Store such oils away from your homeopathic medications that may be antidote by the more powerful and strong aromas.
    15. Consume these oils only if it is recommended by the physician.

  5. Lavender Lemon Ice Cream Recipe

    Author: Kayla Fioravanti

    Ingredients
    • 3 Cups Half and Half
    • 2 Tbsp Lavender Buds
    • ¾ Cup FRESH squeezed Lemon Juice
    • Zested Peel of 1 Lemon
    • 1 Cup Sugar
    • 5 Egg Yokes
    • ¼ Tsp. Salt

    Instructions
    1. In a heavy saucepan combine Half & Half and Lavender Buds. Slowly warm over medium heat while stirring occasionally until the mixture comes to a light simmer.
    2. At the same time add Egg Yolks, Sugar and Salt together to a heat proof container and whisk vigorously. I used my Kitchen Aid mixer but a handheld mixer would work just was well. The egg mixture will change colors and increase in volume.
    3. Take a moment to set up an ice bath before you create your custard in the next phase. To create an ice bath nestle a smaller heat proof bowl into a larger bowl filled with ice and water. Set aside.
    4. Remove a cup of warm Half and Half from your saucepan and pour it slowly into your egg mixture while whisking.
    5. Once mixed add this egg mixture into your saucepan of warm Half and Half. Continue to heat this new mixture while stirring. Within a few minutes your mixture will become custard like.
    6. Pour mixture through a fine-mesh sieve (to remove leaves) into the bowl resting in an ice bath. Stir occasionally. Once the steam stops rising from your mixture put the bowl into the refrigerator to cool for 2-4 hours.
    7. Follow the directions on your ice cream machine.
    8. If your machine has a step for putting add-ins while it churns add the YOUR Peppermint Patties as directed. Otherwise mix them in prior to step 8.
    9. Once your machine cycle is done spoon your mixture into a freezer safe container and freeze for at least 2 hours.
    10. For added Lavender flavor you can mix 1 Tsp. Lavender Buds with 3 Tbsp. Sugar in a food processor. This will make a light and flavorful Lavender Sugar. You can dust the Lavender Sugar onto Lavender Lemon Ice Cream just before serving.

If you used the vegetable glycerine base, there are a few different types of methods for using earth paint. The first is to use the paint without any water and the other is to use it with water.

    Paint12

    Without Added Water

Dip paintbrush into paint, with no added water, for the most vibrant color. However, it will take a very long time to dry without any water added. If you decide to use this method, make sure to let it dry in an area where it will not be disturbed.

    Paint15

    With Added Water:

Dip paintbrush in water to create a more watercolor-like consistency. This will be the best method for a quick dry time. However, the colors will not be as vibrant.
